Confirmation of the probe comes after an October incident where one of the cars dragged a pedestrian 20 feet.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission have opened an investigation into General Motors-owned autonomous car company Cruise, following an October incident here where one of its cars hit a jaywalking pedestrian and dragged her about 20 feet.

Confirmation of the federal probe comes months after the California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended the company’s permits following the October crash. Cruise said in Thursday blog post that it is “fully cooperating with the state and federal regulatory and enforcement agencies.”

The company was criticized by state regulators for appearing to initially misrepresent the series of events around the crash.

Cruise, which has since halted its driverless testing program around the country, also released an 86-page report from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan regarding the Oct. 2 incident, and the company’s subsequent interactions with the city and state.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
