AI Addict – Single video shows problems with Tesla FSD and with Waymo

Hat tip to Sue Vaughan for finding this video!

AI Addict set out to create a video to test Tesla FSD and Waymo on the crookedest street in San Francisco: Vermont! A crooked street is actually not difficult for autonomy, but the test shined light on serious drawbacks of both Tesla FSD and with Waymo.

Incredibly short 0.6 mile trip

The Tesla FSD 12 system started by running a stop sign, trying to turn onto the wrong street, braking poorly, stopping too long at stop signs, blindly driving into oncoming traffic lane on crest of hill, and needing manual intervention to actually proceed to the final destination. It was a clear failure of FSD both with respect to safety and comfort. At $12k or $200/month FSD is quite absurd.

The Waymo system started off quite poorly by antagonizing the rider by not stopping at their pickup location, and seemingly toying with them by moving ahead a couple of times. If the rider was a person with disabilities, they would have been completely out of luck. And to make matters even worse, the really short 0.6 mile trip cost a whopping $10.94 . Even though Waymo loses a tremendous amount of money per trip, it is still far to expensive to be practical.

Check out the short but enlightening video:

And if you ask Google maps it shows that you could just walk there for free in 10 minutes, or take the bus and walk in ten minutes. If you count in the time waiting for the Waymo to first arrive you can see that walking or taking transit would have been just as fast.

Google Maps shows walking or taking transit also just 10 minutes
