Tesla very confused about usefulness of Lidar

Lidar is essential for a safe robotaxi system since computer vision is completely inadequate for detecting certain objects, such as pedestrians at night, or even large semi-trucks crossing the road.

For a while Tesla at least has used Lidar in order to determine how effective their vision sensors actually are.

But now Elon Musk states that Lidar doesn’t even need to be used for calibration anymore.

The short story is that Elon Musk and Tesla are actively refusing to work towards creating a safe autonomous vehicle system. This will not end well.
